We are thrilled that from Monday 29th March, we will be able to open our courts to members and start to play tennis once again!
To celebrate, there will be an additional social tennis session on Monday 29th March 2-4pm with regular sessions resuming from Wednesday 31st March:
• Wednesday 1-3pm in the winter, 6pm-dusk in the summer
• Saturday 2-5pm
• Sunday 2-5pm
Our social tennis sessions are always popular and (we’ve been told) one of the best things about Mersey Bowmen. Joining social is one of the quickest ways to meet people, improve your skills and just enjoy tennis. Everyone is welcome- whatever your ability or experience- all you need is enthusiasm!
We know that many of you have been itching to play and as spring arrives it is the perfect time to dust off your rackets and come down to the Club!
Please remember, whilst at Mersey Bowmen, to stick to COVID guidelines whilst playing so that we keep ourselves and others safe.

We’re also pleased to announce three new group coaching sessions for MB members, withLydia Mountford, one of our club coaches.
If you haven’t picked up a racket for a while but are keen to get back into the swing of things, join the rusty rackets group between 5 and 6pm.
Two advanced classes follow, with a women’s team coaching session from 6:05 until 7:05, and a mixed team session from 7:10 to 8:10.
Each group is limited to a maximum of five people, to ensure that each session can take place safely and social distancing will be maintained throughout. Sessions are £6.50 each, and Lydia will anti-bac all equipment beforehand, and provide hand sanitiser for both before and after you play.

We’re pleased to report that our courts have been open for almost a month now, following the easing of lockdown, but are for the use of members, only. This is the official policy from the LTA, so unfortunately we’re not able to invite guests to play at the club at the moment.
The LTA has issued new guidance about playing tennis during lockdown, which is applicable from June 1. Following new government measures, both doubles and singles are now permitted, with people outside your household, as long as you maintain social distancing of two metres at all times. You need to book courts in advance, online, in order to play and must clean all equipment before and after use. Please wash or sanitise your hands thoroughly, before and after your game.
If you haven’t played for a while, you can read the full guidance from the LTA here. But regardless of how recently you’ve played, please make sure you’re up-to-date with the latest information, as guidance changes frequently at the moment.
We had a steady 2019 season in the Liverpool League with our Mens teams all staying in their current leagues and one of our Ladies teams almost winning silverware!
Our Ladies first team finished 2nd in Division A yet again, our second team found it tough in Division A after promotion there last year and our third team remain in Division C after a great promotion to that league last year. So, for 2020 our Ladies will have a team in divisions A, B and C.
Our Mens first team just missed out on promotion to Division A by half a point but they remain strong for next year. Our second team remain in Division D after a 6th place finish and our third team remain in Division H after a mid table 4th finish. We will go on with heads high and all teams will fight for silverware in 2020!
In the Brockbank Cup this year we lost in the first round to club Bohemians who actually went on to reach the semi finals. And in the Fairlawn Trophy we did not manage to reach the final in order to defend the trophy but we are still over the moon with last years win in this event after 26 years of trying!
All our teams are raring to get back on court as soon as the COVID-19 pandemic is over, but we have one question…would YOU like to join us? Go on, why not! Click on the JOIN US link to find out how. We play regular matches in Summer, Autumn AND Winter leagues in both Liverpool and Wirral Leagues.

After more than 20 years of participating in the Fairlawn Tournament we are very proud to announce that we are winners!
The Fairlawn Trophy is a club tournament that runs in parallel alongside the Liverpool Leagues and is open to all clubs to participate in. It was first competed in 1965 where each Group club was invited to field a team of 6 mixed doubles. Over the years different formats have been tried before the current arrangement of 4 mixed doubles was finally agreed. The Trophy is dedicated to the Fairlawn Club which was a prominent member of the Liverpool Group until 1964 when “circumstances” forced the club to disband and resign from the Group.
On Sunday 12th August we were scheduled to play Widnes Tennis Academy in the final of the tournament, but due to severe weather warnings the match managed to be moved to Widnes’ indoor tennis courts. The standard of play was exceptionally high and we are delighted and relieved to at last win after taking part in so many fruitless finals in recent years. This is our first Fairlawn win since 1992!
